Last article discussion

For an article talk in this week I choose the The topic about “Twitter wants to become your go-to source for news” and you could see more information on this link
In the news they said that Twitter released a new feature that highlights tweets from news publishers. The feature replaces URL links with a card-like format that displays brief summaries of stories and an enhanced image. This happened because many users already flock to the digital media platform site for news. The number of Twitter users receive their news from the social media site are increased 11% from 2013, according by Pew Research Center. Moreover, Tweets hopes to attract users to news articles and ultimately drive them to publishers’ sites.
In my opinion, this would be a good choice to drive in news. Nowadays, people are interested to follow what happening in the day. News is one site which we could follow the world situation. Also, people using Twitter like their life.  If Twitter make easy to connect with the news article by a link publishers, it would be good. However, a benefit by this change would not happen with just to the users. Furthermore, Twitter would increase the number of users who visit the site for news content.

My partner is Golf. He chooses the article about “Japan scraps 2020 Olympic stadium design”. The Japanese government has decided to scrap its controversial design for the stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

Bias Story

Last week I wrote a story about Glutathione. It is a chemical that using in medical profession to help people who are alcoholism, asthma, cancer, heart disease, etc. Moreover, people using it for skin whitening. But, I did not write it in the good ways. I used the Media bias call “Bias by Omission” to omitted the good ways of Glutathione. After that I gave the story to my partner to analyze for Bias.

Bibi is my partner. First, she told me that she could not find any Bias is my writing. She explained to me that I have to improve my story. Also, I improved and gave it to her again. This time she told me that I was using many type of Bias, such as:

  • Bias by Labeling: I wrote repeatedly Glutathione it seem bad. I told that Glutathione is very expensive and it could make a cancer, blind and dead.
  • Bias by spin: I described an example case that was dead because Glutathione. In fact, she is dead because another reason.
  • Bias by selection of sources: i mentioned to Dr jang that he was said about Glutathione.
Anyway, I tried to use several Bias in my story. But it not work at all.

Both of the tests could tell your mind

In this article I would like to share my results of The Implicit Association Test and The Political Compass Test. So, we can share the opinion about this together. Moreover, you can go to do a test in this website:

https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html

https://www.politicalcompass.org/test

The Implicit Association Test is the way that you could know your bias which you never know before. It is a flexible task designed to tap automatic associations between concepts and attributes. For example, math and arts, good or bad, male or female, self or other.

Moreover, The Political Compass Test is the way that you could understand your attitude on politic. The Political Compass Test is a multi-axis political model, used by the website of the same name, to label or organize political thought on two dimensions. The test also includes an explanation of the two-axis system they use, a few charts which place various past and present political figures according to their estimation, and reading list for each of the main political orientations.

First, I would like to talk about the Implicit Association Test (the IAT). At the beginning of this study, I read a few facts about two men. Brian was described as honest but unfriendly, and Kevin was described as friendly but dishonest.

My result is my data suggest moderate automatic preference for Brian over Kevin.
Most people report a preference for honest people over friendly people. The testing whether people will show a similar automatic preference for the honest man over the friendly man.

In my opinion, for my result might be different than the attitude that I have been. Maybe, I might consciously prefer Kevin over Brian, but show automatic preference for Brian over Kevin. I never compare people who are honest and friendly. So, I think the result might be change if I do a test again for next time. In addition, due to my environmental that it would be a reason why I’m received an honest.

The second test is The Political Compass Test. I received results that placed me in the extreme Libertarian Left. Which is stress both individual freedom and social justice.

If I connect my ideology to my biases. It seem as though the best connection. Because the left-wing politics are political position or activities that accept or support social equality. It sound seem to be honest.

1st discussion post

For talking about the news on last Saturday we have been selecting the news form the internet. In our group we have three people Sin, Bui and me.

Bui chooses the news from somewhere (that I could not remember the name of website because of my brain is so error). Furthermore I still remember the topic (because I write it down on my notebook). The topic is about US drops Cuba from terror blacklist in landmark move. Bui said “In the news they also point out about U.S President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro”. Bui also explain that “Cuba has vehemently protested its 1982 inclusion on the blacklist and nowadays the United States dropped Cuba from its blacklist of state sponsors of terrorism”. We discuss that it is will be good news for the global.
Moreover, Sin chooses the news about the gunman who was shooting people in the public area. This issue is happen in many years ago in USA. However, it still being in court because the doctor had said the gunman had symptoms of his psychosis. So, maybe he is not wrong. We three had a comment for this serious case that makes a scarier society.

Anchoring Effect

In last week I had to read about “the 12 cognitive biases that prevent you from being rational”

We separate the student in to a small group for 4 groups. So, in our group we have to discuss about 3 cognitive biases for “Projection Bias”, “The current moment Bias” and “Anchoring Effect”. These three cognitive are very important to learn about the bias, because it easy to happening in any time in our life.

As a projection bias said “As individuals trapped inside our own mind 24/7. We tend to believe that people not only think like us, but they also agree with us.” For example, the exaggerated confidence one has when predicting the winner of sports match. If we cheer the blue team, we will tend to assume that most people cheer this team like us. Though there may be no justification for it.
For the second topic is “The current moment Bias”. Most people would rather experience pleasure in the current moment, while leaving the pain for lather”. In my opinion, this is very true, many times that I cannot stop eating spicy food when my friend invite me to eat papaya salad. However I really promise with myself that I will not eat spicy food again after I ever meet a problem about my stomach.

The last one is talking about “Anchoring Effect” that mean we tend to fixate on a value or number that in turn gets compared to everything else. For example, you know about i-phone6 quality and you know about the price of it. You also focus on that item. When you hear about any smart phone which it the new one, you will compare with i-phone6 again. This is calling Anchoring Effect.

In summarize, 12 cognitive biases that we learn is very important. If we know we can use it to protect our activity that can be more bias. Every activity cannot go without the bias. However, it cans success with a good bias.
